Nowadays, I’ve the luxury of being retired from paid work. Before that, my work was mainly in the voluntary sector, supporting and training volunteers, and promoting Good Practice with voluntary organizations. Alongside this, I have been actively involved in Justice and Peace issues, campaigning, marching, organizing and being part of various projects – including Leeds Action for Peace, Leeds Inter-Church Peace group, and various national peace groups. For about 30 years we shared our family home with vulnerable people, including Chilean refugees and troubled teenagers. I was a founder member of ‘Nightstop’, and also St Anne’s Shelter and Housing Centre.
The combination of working for peace on a global level, and at the local level in a holistic way, has always been important to me. T4P inspires me because it addresses the issues of conflict in neighbourhoods, diversity, the breaking down of barriers, and it helps to empower people in a way that strengthens local communities and promotes peacemaking. I feel privileged to be part of it.
